Step 7: Develop a Follow-Up Strategy
Follow-up is the key to success for Steps to Success students. We want to make sure that the positive momentum from the home visit propels the student to take the next step quickly. The video below depicts our follow-up in action and the steps we take after each event. Once again, this can be different for your district depending on your resources.

Follow-Up Steps

  • Set up a Success Center: Staff a location starting the day of the walk in order to field phone calls and walk-ins from targeted students.
  • Debrief: Meet with team leaders after they return from home visits. Assign the next course of action.
  • Manage cases: Assign a team of district and school personnel to coordinate follow-ups.
  • Collect data: Keep track of students starting on day one and continue to track them.
  • Thank volunteers: Reach out to volunteers once again to thank them and solicit feedback on the event.
  • Notify schools and programs: Keep schools informed of the students you are referring to them and the services that may be required.
  • Celebrate success: Make sure students and schools are recognized for their successes resulting from the event.
