Oyama second-grader receives Citizenship Award from Pima County Sheriff's Department

When Phillip Suarez's grandmother stopped the car on the drive to school last year because she was experiencing a medical emergency, Philip, a second grade student at Oyama Elementary School, took quick action. He jumped into the front seat, kissed his grandmother on the cheek, and told her he would be right back. He then ran a block-and-a-half to the Pima County Jail, where he found two deputies who returned with him to call 911 and ensure that his grandmother was safely transported to hospital. Due to his fast response, Philip's grandmother received the help she needed. At an award ceremony at the school on Friday, November 4, Sheriff Nanos awarded Phillip with the the Pima County Sheriff's Department's Citizen Award.
