First Smiles Matter: Pima County Health Department

The First Smiles Matters Program is partnering with the Catalina Family Resource Center to offer free dental health screenings. The program is open to children 0-5 years and expectant mothers. A dental health screening helps identify a person's risk for tooth decay and identify any unmet dental needs. The dental screening, risk assessment, and fluoride treatment are simple. The whole process takes 3-5 minutes. Parents/guardians must sign a consent form to receive free services. Nutrition Plus Healthy for Life: Presented by The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension                                                  Are you looking to improve your health and lifestyle? What better time than now to get started. Join Ms. Ivonne Martinez for this 4-session workshop to get a jump start on summer! Learn about food safety, sugar, salts, fats, and exercise. Health and Wellness Event: Presented by Nosotros
Appointments are required for this event. Please get in touch with Rosa Maria at 520-225-2172. Join us and learn about the human liver, improving eating habits, and how to live a healthy life. Eligible participants for this study will receive a free liver scan. Please fast for three hours before your scheduled appointment and wear comfortable clothes.

Healthy Eating Routine & Nutrition: UA Cooperative Extension Pima County 

 

Are you looking for a simple and healthy eating routine? Join us at the Southwest Family Resource Center to learn or be reminded how simple proper nutrition can be! The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension has a Community Nutrition Education program that the staff is excited to share. Learn about MyPlate as the instructor highlights the importance of variety in all five food groups.

Come and learn basic computer skills with a certified TUSD teacher! Classes take place once a week at the Family Resource Centers, and you can drop in at your convenience. The teacher will be on-hand to help with ParentVUE, resume building, federal meal application, school choice applications, navigating the TUSD website, College Prep & AZ Merit exams, and more!

Becoming Financially Fit: Family Housing Resources

The Financial Foundations Program is a “FREE TO YOU” program developed for Family Housing Resources Inc. to help you build a solid foundation of financial education, grow your wealth, and achieve financial freedom. It includes an 8-session course that will cover budgeting, taxes, loans, and more. After the course, we will pair you with an expert mentor to help you create a plan to achieve your financial goals. An orientation session is required. This course will be held online at no cost to you, and all participants that complete the program successfully may be eligible to receive up to $200.00!

Tucson Unified's Family Resource Centers offer a wide variety of classes and workshops to parents, guardians and community members to help strengthen Tucson Unified families by providing education and resources. Topics include child development, academics, health and nutrition, safety, parenting, college readiness, district and community resources, and more. We believe that stronger families make stronger students, and strong students will contribute to a stronger community overall. Each of the Family Resource Centers offers a monthly calendar of classes and workshops.
